This is the health and safety policy statement of

 

Frodsham Tree Solutions

Our policy is to provide and maintain safe; working conditions, environment, equipment and systems of work in and around our workplace as well as providing adequate control of associated risks arising from our nature of work. Frodsham Tree Solutions will provide training, guidance, Personal Protective Equipment, Insurance, safe systems of work and risk assessments for all work undertaken under our remit.

The allocation of safety matters and the particular arrangements that we will make to implement the policy are set out below. The policy will be made available to all personnel employed within Frodsham Tree Solutions upon commencement of tenure. An annual review and update of this policy where appropriate will ensure its currency.

Responsibilities

Health & Safety Officer. Mr Chris Whitby has overall responsibility as Health and Safety Officer within the organisation.

He is responsible for ensuring that all matters relating to health and safety are addressed within the organisation and that the policy is kept up to date and reviewed annually as a minimum. He is also responsible for the implementation of the health and safety policy, the co-ordination of the undertaking of risk assessments, and the implementation, monitoring and review of any implemented controls as result of a risk assessment.

Employees / Sub Contractors. All employees of Frodsham Tree Solutions have the responsibility to co-operate with the organisation to achieve a safe working environment and take reasonable care of themselves and others and not to interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety. An employee has a responsibility to inform the Health & Safety officer if there is a matter relating to health and safety that should be brought to his attention.

Implementation of policy. The Health & Safety Officer will ensure that all employees/sub contractors have access to the Health & Safety Policy. Each employee will be given a copy of the general policy on commencement of his or her employment.

Risk Assessments. The Health & Safety Officer – Mr C Whitby, shall be responsible for undertaking risk assessments as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Risk Assessments will be undertaken with all relevant employees, sub-contractors and others who will be present at the place of work. The results of the risk assessment will be recorded in writing, safety procedures decided upon and implemented to ensure adequate levels of health and safety.

Below is the procedure of how a risk assessment is carried out by Frodsham Tree Solutions :-

1 – Identify The Hazards

First, identify what the hazards are. Look for hazards that you could reasonably expect to result in significant harm.

2 – Identify Who Might be Harmed and How

Identify people who might be harmed by the hazard, including employees, sub-contractors, other workers in the work place and members of the public.

3 – Evaluating The Risks From Identified Hazards

Risks from identified hazards need to be evaluated. If there are no hazards there are no risks. It is also necessary to:

. Observe the actual practice

. Address what actually happens in the workplace or during the work activity.

. Take account of existing preventative measures, if existing measures are not adequate, consider what more should be done to reduce the risk sufficiently.

4 – Review & Revision

Review the assessment and update as required. Check that all precautions for each hazard that had been identified is still adequately controlled.

Accidents & First Aid

Mr C Whitby is the trained and appointed first aider, working in accordance with Government Regulations as per RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences 1995)

First Aid boxes are located in the cab of each work vehicle as well as personal ‘first response’ first aid kits.

The appointed first aider is responsible for ensuring that the first aid boxes are kept fully stocked and equipped.

All injuries, incidents and dangerous occurrences at work involving employees or members of the public must be reported and recorded in the Accident Book.

The First Aider keeps the Accident Book.

Major accidents or incidents are to be reported to the Enforcing Authority quickly by phone or email. These and other specified injuries or incidents must also be reported by submitting a completed F2508 report form to the Authority within one week of the incident.

The First Aider is responsible for reporting accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authority. The enforcing authority for Frodsham Tree Solutions is:-

Environmental Health, Cheshire West & Chester Council

Any incident under the above regulations can also be reported in a variety of ways; by telephone & post to Cheshire East Council using form 2508 or 2508A.

Safe Plant and Equipment

Mr C Whitby is responsible for identifying all equipment /plant needing maintenance.

It will be ensured that all identified maintenance is implemented and that records of any inspection, servicing or maintenance of equipment / plant is recorded and that records are maintained.

Inspections to be made for climbing, lifting and lowering equipment, will be made by appointed inspectors to meet LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) 1998 standards. This will be done periodically as required.

It is ensured that employees are given adequate information, instruction and training in relation to the use of plant and equipment. Records of any information, instruction and training are kept and updated as required.

Safe Handling and Use of Substances

Mr C Whitby will be responsible for identifying all substances that require a COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) 2002 assessment. He will ensure all records are kept maintained and updated as necessary.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Mr C Whitby will be responsible for ensuring that, where the need for PPE is identified, that it is suitable for the activity it is required for and that it is suitable for the individual using it.

Driving at work

It is the policy of Frodsham tree solutions to ensure that staff who are required to drive as part of their work activities are competent to do so. Mr C Whitby will be responsible for ensuring that staff who undertake driving details are competent and a register is kept recording this information. All staff are responsible for ensuring that any road traffic incidents are reported.

Lone Workers

Should employees of Frodsham Tree Solutions be required to work alone, they are responsible for informing colleagues or managers of their location and estimated time of return before departure to place of work. They are also to be contactable at all times.
