When a member of the public reported a dangerous tree failure within Woodland Trust-managed Woodland, Frodsham Tree Solutions Ltd was called upon to respond as a priority.
A mature tree had catastrophically failed, snapping approximately 15 feet above ground level. The remaining 35-foot section of the stem had become suspended across the canopy of a neighbouring silver birch, directly above a well-used public footpath.
With the damaged tree under significant tension and compression forces, the suspended stem presented an immediate risk to members of the public.

Controlled Felling of the Suspended Stem
Once the work area had been secured and all safety measures implemented, our arborists carefully carried out the controlled felling operation.
The remaining stem was felled backwards, allowing the broken section to slide safely down the supporting silver birch in a controlled and predictable manner.
By understanding how the tree was loaded and how the forces would react throughout the operation, the team successfully removed the hazard without causing unnecessary damage to neighbouring trees or allowing debris to fall onto the public footpath.
The result was a safe, efficient tree removal that restored public access while preserving the surrounding woodland environment.
